Our school was founded in 1946, after World War II, initially enrolling mainly the children of overseas Chinese from Southeast Asia. The school's founders aimed to educate them about China's national conditions and future, enabling them to become a supportive force in the construction of a new China, hence the name "Pui Kiu Middle School." After 1949, the student body gradually shifted to mainly local students and those from overseas Chinese communities, yet the name "Pui Kiu" has remained unchanged as we seek to connect with our roots.
Pui Kiu has been established for seventy-one years. In its early days, the school faced many challenges and experienced extraordinary times on the hills of Langyuan Road in Happy Valley. We uphold the philosophy of education and nation-building, striving to ensure that our students develop comprehensively in morality, intellect, physical fitness, social skills, and aesthetics. For decades, we have diligently cultivated many talents for Hong Kong society.
In 1983, the school relocated to a new campus on Braemar Road in North Point, and in 1991, it became one of the first directly funded schools in Hong Kong.
Due to our satisfactory educational achievements, after Hong Kong's return to the motherland, we received approval from the SAR government to establish a subsidized Pui Kiu Primary School in Siu Sai Wan and to create the "through-train" Pui Kiu College (a combined primary and secondary school) in Tai Wai, Sha Tin.
